June 6 Rendezvous Reminder Web Update

Hello M Family!

Hopefully a busy May means that you are all in the water and ready for some summer fun. From our family, May was hectic and awesome all at the same time. We had 2 sons graduate from college, closed the sale of our house, ended a long spring semester for Betsy and got the boat wet, WHEW!

Remember the get your rendezvous reservations in by June 15! This is always a great time. While it’s great to see a bunch of M’s together, you don’t even need too bring a boat to join in the fun. See the details from Craig’s previous post for more information.

One of our new members asked me to post this information. If you know the history of his boat, he would love to hear from you.

Hi, it’s Jim Kenney, one of the club’s newest members.

I’m not sure if anyone in Ohio might remember my boat when it was named “Bang”. I recently purchased “Surf Rider” from a gentleman who brought it over to the Windsor Yacht Club in 2009 from Ohio.

She hasn’t travelled much over the past few years and has accumulated approx. 665 hours to date. A couple years back we made some changes to improve handling and seaworthiness.

Modifications were performed by Hyke Metal out of Wheatley Ontario. This was our best choice because of their extensive experience in building aluminum Coast Guard, Fire boats and expedition yachts primarily out of aluminum.

We had the following enhancements performed on Surf Rider.

These include-

¾ inch aluminum keel to reduce roll and sliding off waves.

Forward through hull Zeus bow thruster

Transom mounted below swim platform Zeus Stern Thruster.

Both thrusters are powered by gel batteries managed by a dedicated charging system

We also installed forward sonar while at Hyke’s.

These modifications completely changed the boat’s performance. It handles great.

If any members in Ohio might remember “Bang”, I would appreciate if they could share some History.

Thanks Jim Kenney

EDIT: “Bang” was docked at Venetian Marina in Sandusky, Ohio in the 2000-2005 timeframe. We don’t know where it went when it was sold.

April 26, 2017 Web Update- 8 Bells

How cool was this.

On Saturday, the McKays graciously invited me to participate in the renaming ceremony for their Marinette 8 Bells. What an amazing job on the new transom graphic! I’m sure it will be a hit at the rendezvous.

The Mckays plan on becoming liveaboards in Camp Lejeune, North Carolina in a couple of years, taking their beautiful M with them.

April 18, 2017 Web Update

It’s officially launch time (or soon will be). As we are all getting our M’s ready to splash, how about a little “day-dream” material from yesteryear. Thanks Ray Konko!

Keep checking back often as we will be adding rendezvous information and some new club merchandise opportunities.

March 19, 2017 Web Update

Thanks to members Tom and Melinda Zmina for the great shot of their 1988 28′ Express. Looks like they are having fun, Marinette style.

Makes me think that boating is just around the corner. I don’t know about you, but I am in countdown mode. Look to the site and for an email regarding the 2017 rendezvous to be sent out soon. If you know of any M owners that are not club members, please send me some contact information and I will get in touch with them. No sales pressure here, I think the club sells itself!

February 17, 2017 Web Update

HELP WANTED!

Its February and we need your best Marinette photos to get us through the rest of this winter. It sure has been a mild season for Ohioans, but it’s still 2+ months before launch dates begin. Please send me a favorite photo or two. The subject, “enjoying your M”. Best submissions will be entered for a rendezvous prize!

If you are having trouble sending items to this site, you can always email me directly at captainscott32@gmail.com

January 30, 2017 Update

Happy almost February everyone! The above photo is courtesy of members Sue and Craig Pass aboard their 1989 Fisherman “Our Joy”. I want to start including members pictures with each post as a way of showing our pride of ownership. Plus, it helps us update the winter countdown clock to our pending launch dates! Actually, I guess we haven’t really had much to complain about during this rather “mild” winter.

I will be sending a group email out soon. This email will both send some exciting rendezvous information as well as insuring our contact information remains current for our members. this email message is as much a sharing of information as a test of my dissemination skills so, wish me luck. I would also like to solicit photos for publication on the site. Send me your favorite M shots.

Also, President  asked me to include the following with the email. I though it might be a good idea to also publish this information here. sounds like fun! Stay warm!

Welcome 2017

Happy New Year Marinette enthusiasts! I hope that 2017 is a year full of blessings and opportunities that enrich all our lives.

Below is an interesting scan from a Marinette promotional brochure describing the construction methods used at the factory. It shows just how well our boats were engineered and built. Some quality off-season reading. Thanks Ray Konko!

If you have any pictures, articles or just interesting stuff, please drop me an email and I will include it in a future post. Stay safe, warm and healthy in 2017!

Labor Day Blues?

Hello All!

Is it possible that it is Labor Day 2016 already? I sincerely Hope that the holiday finds you in good health and good spirits. As your new web administrator, this is my first post. I guess we have been a bit busy enjoying the weather, water and most importantly, our Marinette.

My goal, with Craig’s guidance, is to make this site a resource for all things Marinette. I, or more correctly, we collectively aspire to help you with your boat  projects, your ideas, your frustrations and your triumphs. We are all here for the same reason, we are dedicated Marinette “metalheads”.

In the coming weeks, I hope to contact you via email for your input and request submission materials. I will be receiving some pamphlet scans from Ray Konko that I will be posting for your retro reading enjoyment,. Additionally, I will be adding resource materials to help you better enjoy your time on the water.

Remember, when you see another happy Marinette owner or enthusiast, direct them to this site and our club. Will post soon!

Scott Ross
